How a family company survived seven generations……

17 08 2010

Below links to a column in the Globe and Mail on-line Report on Business that I was pleased to work with the writer on as he is an old childhood acquaintance of mine.  About a month back I had come across his book on the internet, noticed his name as author, and realized we went to middle school together.  We hadn’t been in touch for some 25 years.  From all accounts he appears to have been very successful in the business world and he wrote back suggesting the opportunity of writing about our family business.  My business partners (my brother and father) and I have always shied away from media opportunities to focus on the business and not get distracted by articles that often become self-serving in many ways.  But this seemed like a nice fit to honour, in a small way, our father in his last year of official work, ie. he’s really retiring!!…..and celebrate a little of what he is about and what our family business is about from a third generation perspective.  It was also great to come together with someone from my childhood in this regard.  Stay in His wakes!
